It’s different when you let someone else see what you’ve created.
The students at South Western High know.
They’re taking a chance that you’ll like what you see, that you will get their art, that you’ll appreciate their work.
An exhibit of artwork from 11 juniors and seniors in Drawing and Painting will be on display at Art Downtown, the gallery of the Hanover Area Arts Guild, 32 Carlisle St., Hanover, the last week in January.
Each student will contribute eight pieces of art, explained Julie Gelsinger, the art educator who is coordinating the show. The students were in the gallery in 2016 to measure and prepare for the hanging and displaying their “personal body of work,” Gelsinger said.
The show is part of a four-year track of classes in art and was her inspiration as she “sipped and strolled” last October. She’s hoping, Gelsinger said, it’s the first of many to come.
“This is more formal. This a new class to us,” the educator explained, adding the students have discussed how they exhibit their art, what it would mean if they add or subtract a piece of artwork. “It’s that whole thought process.”
The exhibit can be seen at Art Downtown during regular gallery hours, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. The exhibit will be on display Jan. 24-28.
A reception for family, friends and the community is planned 7-9 p.m. Jan. 27 at Art Downtown.
