Life of a Civil War Soldier: Special Education Event for the Visually-Impaired
January 21, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Gettysburg National Military Park starts the new year with events for families with special learners. Join us for “Life of a Civil War Soldier” for the Visually-Impaired, Saturday, Jan. 21, 9 until 11 a.m. The program begins in the Ford Education Center inside the Museum & Visitor Center.
Youth and families can explore the material environment and sounds of a typical Civil War soldier camp through bugle calls and other music, hands-on history stations and a visit to a battlefield farm used as a general’s headquarters and field hospital. Sensory keepsake bags transport the learning and inspiration back home.
The event is free of charge. Pre-registration is required to attend by emailing the National Park Service at Gettysburg’s education team at gett_education@nps.gov.
Participants are invited to also attend the free Saturday morning Reading Adventures programs at 11 a.m. in the theater at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center.
