Mortuary Practices: How the Civil War Changed the Death Profession

On October 30th at 7 p.m. Duane Hills and Neva FinGado, both Licensed Funeral Professionals, will be discussing the history of embalming practices in the United States and how the Civil War played a vital role in moving the death care profession and the preparation of the deceased into a new direction.

“One Block West of the White House: Joseph Gawler’s Sons Funeral Home, Undertaker of the Presidents” and “Washington’s Sinners and Saints: Lost in History”, both books written by Mr. Hills and co-authored with Alice Adams, will be available for purchase at the conclusion of the presentation.
