Gettysburg 1863: What was Life Like for the Civilians of Gettysburg?

In 1863, Gettysburg was the county seat of Adams County with a population of just over 2,000 people. There were eight churches, six major hotels, two banks, and three weekly newspapers. There were stores, tanneries, and brickyards as well as a declining carriage industry. There were gas street lamps and a rail connection with a telegraph line, providing daily communication with the outside world.
Join Timothy H. Smith on Saturday, June 6th at 3 p.m. as he discusses the Gettysburg community at the time of the battle and how the people in our area went about their day-to-day lives.
Tickets are free for Gettysburg History members and $10/general admission.
The program will be held in the Garden Room of the Shriver House Museum at 307 Baltimore Street, Gettysburg.
