Amblebrook 5K Memorial Run and Fun Walk

September 14 @ 8:30 am - 1:00 pm

$35

Amblebrook is an active 55+ adult community announcing the second annual 5K Run and Fun Walk recognizing all those who currently have Dementia or Alzheimer’s disease or who have passed away from the ravages of these conditions.  Amblebrook remains committed to supporting our greater community in all efforts to promote a healthy environment and lifestyle. All proceeds from the 5K/Fun Walk will be donated to Adams County Office for the Aging, ACOFA, to fund Alzheimer’s and Dementia initiatives and programs.

The race will kick off at 8:30AM at Amblebrook’s Model Village/Welcome Center with participants pacing themselves through the streets and paths within and around Amblebrook. The Run/Walk will end at the Fitness Center where residents will host a parking lot party from 10:00AM to 1:00PM. Activities include a flower arranging class by Butterfly Blooms as well as a session of painting mini pumpkins donated by Hollabaugh Bros. Inc.  Free memory mini screenings will be available by ACOFA. Hungry after the race? Indulge in fare from Big Dogs Red Hot Buns, Gettysburg Olive Oil Company, The Berry Bin and treats sold by the veteran-owned MunchiesBasics food truck. But that’s not all: vendors such as Gourds ETC, Martin’s Shoes will be on hand in addition to Amblebrook crafters with products for sale and raffle. Free mini memory screenings will be offered by ACOFA.

Lynn Deardorff, Executive Director of Adams County Office for Aging, works tirelessly to ensure that Adams County residents are aware of how the agency serves the community in support of both those suffering from Dementia as well as their care partners. The list of personal and community services is extensive for those over 60 in Adams County. Direct and personal care, meals, caregiver support and adult day service are all available in the county. Many services are provided at no cost while the fees for some are based on monthly income. Community support of all senior centers, transportation, tax assistance and legal services are in this agency’s domain. Funded by federal and state entities and supported additionally by private donations similar to the Amblebrook 5K keep these services available to the entire community. Please see acofa.org for more information.

One of the agency’s current goals is to provide 50 robotic compassion therapy pets for those county residents in need. Pet therapy for seniors is effective in helping to lower blood pressure, ease anxiety, reduce feelings of loneliness, and improve overall quality of life for Dementia patients. Their lifelike movements mimic the look, feel and sound of live companions. The 5K Run/Walk encourages those able to direct their donation to purchase a pet for an Adams County resident.

Please consider running, walking and partying on Saturday, September 14 at Amblebrook. To register for the Amblebrook 5K/Run/Fun Walk please go to the link below. The registration fee is $35 per person.
