Artifact of the Month
“This ominous note was left by a Confederate soldier in the 9th Alabama at the farm of George Culp, near Gettysburg. In it, the Alabamian gives a half-hearted apology for “tearing up” the home, and threatens to return again next summer if he Union army does not “quit burning up our houses, turning woman [sic]and children out of doors.”
The Adams County Historical Society (ACHS) preserves millions of incredible artifacts like this one. Currently, ACHS needs your help raising funds for a new home that will protect these precious materials forever. To learn more, please visit www.achs-pa.org/campaign
