Rupp House Courtyard Chats

Visitors to the Rupp House History Center have an opportunity to enjoy a series of Courtyard Chats throughout the 2019 summer season. Join us and relax in the comfort of a rocking chair on the courtyard porches of the historic Rupp House, located at 451 Baltimore Street, Gettysburg. Programs begin at 6:30 p.m.

Basic Genealogy – Finding Your Civil War Ancestor: Tim Smith and Roger Rex of the Adams County Historical Society will help kick start your discovery of your family history.

 

Saturday, July 27

Stories of the Gettysburg Civilians: Author Linda Clark will discuss and sign several of her books written about the civilians in town at the time of the Battle of Gettysburg.

 

Saturday, Aug. 3

Becoming A Living Historian: Mike Reetz will discuss his journey to become a first-person living historian and why he chose to portray General Horace Porter.

 

Saturday, Aug. 10

Building a Park: Ken Rich explains the actions that created the beautiful battlefield park we now enjoy.

 

Saturday, Aug. 17

Basic Genealogy – Finding Your Civil War Ancestor: Tim Smith and Roger Rex of the Adams County Historical Society will help kick start your discovery of your family history.

 

Saturday, Aug. 24

Joe Mieczkowski Book Signings: Licensed Battlefield Guide and author Joe Mieczkowski will discuss his book on Lee’s Retreat after Gettysburg and will sign books he has written about the cabinets of Jefferson Davis and Abraham Lincoln.

 

Saturday, Aug. 31

The Everyday Life of a Soldier: Licensed Battlefield Guide and author Larry Korczyk will talk about camp life for the men who fought in the Civil War and will display a typical soldier’s personal items.

 

Saturday, Sept. 7

Civil War Mascots and Pets: Bernadette Loeffel-Atkins will awe us with stories and pictures of the animals that meant so much to the men who fought in the Civil War.

 

Saturday, Sept. 14

The Second Day at Gettysburg, The Attack and Defense of Cemetery Ridge on July 2, 1863: Join author Scott Mingus for a discussion on his book and have him sign this book and others he has authored.
